You may think that your inner dialogue is never heard so it doesn't really matter. That the only words you need to be careful about are the ones you say out loud to others...but that isn't true.
The words you say in your mind are critical...they can lighten your mood, or spiral it downwards. You may find that you can be your worst critic. That you say things to yourself that you wouldn't dream of saying to anyone else.
You may think that it is impossible to change your thinking...that if you are used to berating yourself, that isn't something you can change. But you can. I can speak from experience that it is possible to move from negative thinking, like fear, to feelings of freedom and joy.
If I can do it, anyone can. Once you've learnt the techniques it only takes commitment and work.
